Win 4 Tickets to this week’s CLAPS Production: DINOSAURS BEFORE DARK #Giveaway

This post may contain sponsored or affiliate links

For the last several summers, we have been able to see a few of the CLAPS productions. This is a summer production series at Covington High. This year marks their 22nd season, yet many people still may not know they even exist! So, Dr. Ric Watkins asked me to share the schedule with the best group around – the Northshore Mama readers!

This is such a great program to introduce to your children! It may spark a love of theater, or a desire to be a part of this group when they become of age!

Read more about this program below:

CLAPS (Covington Louisiana Actor’s Playhouse System) began in 1996 with a season of two productions, and was expanded to three productions beginning in 2007. The 2009 season began offering four productions in six weeks. Based on auditions, high school students have been selected as actors, singers, dancers, musicians, set crew, light technicians, backstage crew, costume and make-up artists, choreographers, and public relation personnel. We began with only students from St. Tammany, and have expanded to include a five parish area. We provide students the opportunity to learn from professional artists with formal education and professional experience ranging from the stage to film and grand opera to television. In addition we provide career opportunities for both college bound and non-college-bound students. Your continued support is needed for the success of the CLAPS program.

CLAPS is funded solely on ticket sales, and they need to fill the house this year! So, I highly recommend that all of you Mamas take your kids to at least one of these productions this summer! The cost is far outweighed by the quality! These teens are truly talented and these shows are top notch! Not kidding.

The next show of the 2017 season is DINOSAURS BEFORE DARK! It will be on stage this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 10am each day.

TWO of you will each win a 4 pack of tickets (2 adults, 2 students) for either the Friday or the Saturday show! Enter below!

NOW – because it gets hard to coordinate who gets the tickets to which date, I am going to set up a rafflecopter FOR EACH DAY! If you can’t go on Friday, don’t enter that one. However, if you are wide open, enter both to double your chances!! You will get the passes for the date you win. It just makes it easier for me to deal with on the back end of the contest!

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students.

Amanda’s First CLAPS experience! Win tickets to this week’s show! #Giveaway

This post may contain sponsored or affiliate links

The 2017 CLAPS season started last week. As in years past, I have tickets to giveaway each week. But, last week, one of our new Mamas, Amanda, went to her first show. So, I wanted to let her review it for y’all as a newbie to this program! Below is her experience and below THAT, is this week’s giveaway!

When I was offered tickets to the CLAPS (Covington Louisiana Actor’s Playhouse System) performance of Magic Tree House: A Ghost Tale for Mr. Dickens Jr., I jumped at the chance. My four year old twins are starting theater camp next week and this would be a perfect introduction to some of the things they would be doing. I originally planned to take all three of my kids but my older son didn’t want to miss summer camp. So, I loaded up my mom and the twins and off we went. By this morning, I was getting a bit nervous about the content of the play. I hoped against hope that it wouldn’t be too scary for 4 year olds (I mean, it is called “A Ghost Tale”) and that they would keep still long enough for me to be able to write some kind of review. Honestly, with my kids, you just never know what to expect.

We got to the Elmer E. Lyon Performing Arts Center at Covington High School and settled in. Immediately upon the performance starting, my kids were hooked. The costumes were fantastic, the music was intriguing, and there was enough action to keep them engaged through the entire hour and 10 minutes of the show. The story follows Annie and Jack, from the Magic Treehouse book series, as they are whisked to Victorian England to keep Charles Dickens from quitting writing. We were introduced to a cast of characters who really set the time period and immersed us in the action. From the adorable horse drawn carriage, to the soot covered chimney sweeps, to the salespeople on the streets of London, we saw quite a bit of Victorian England. Throughout the play, we watch Annie and Jack convince Mr. Dickens to continue writing and even help him find the inspiration for his famous “A Christmas Carol” by magically conjuring 3 (mostly) friendly ghosts. Every actor in the play is truly talented. It would be hard to call out just one or two of the cast members, because they were all amazing!
While my mom and I really enjoyed the story, I’m not sure how much of it the twins understood. This particular story was probably a bit over their heads. But, they truly enjoyed the show. They weren’t scared, although Oliver hid his face when Mr. Pinch (Dickens’ inspiration for Scrooge) was singing “Bah Humbug!” Oliver’s favorite part was the 3 ghosts and Annabelle liked the part about the treehouse and “the horsie”. Annabelle loved walking through the cast as we were leaving and Oliver asked to come back and see another show!

I would definitely recommend this show to families with kids 4 and up. Younger kids may have a hard time sitting still for the entire performance. There are 3 more shows in the summer lineup! The next two shows are also Magic Treehouse shows; Pirates Past Noon Kids on June 15th, 16th, and 17th at 10 am and Dinosaurs Before Dark Kids on June 22nd, 23rd, and 24th at 10 am. CLAPS wraps up the summer series with evening performances of Into The Woods on June 22nd, 23rd, and 24th at 7 pm. These are great shows to introduce your kids to theater close to home.

Now, to win tickets to Pirates Past Noon, fill out the rafflecopter below! Choose the day you can go, or enter both if it doesn’t matter which day!
