Have you made it out to see any CLAPS shows this year? This is the final week and it is now double time! We have two shows this week. HONK, a spin on The Ugly Duckling will be on stage Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings at 10am. Then, each of those nights at 7pm, Mary Poppins will be SUPERCALAFRAGILISTICEXPIALADOCIOUS!
For the last several summers, we have been able to see a few of the CLAPS productions. This is a summer production series at Covington High. This year marks their 22nd season, yet many people still may not know they even exist! So, Dr. Ric Watkins asked me to share the schedule with the best group around – the Northshore Mama readers!
This is such a great program to introduce to your children! It may spark a love of theater, or a desire to be a part of this group when they become of age!
Read more about this program below:
CLAPS (Covington Louisiana Actor’s Playhouse System) began in 1996 with a season of two productions, and was expanded to three productions beginning in 2007. The 2009 season began offering four productions in six weeks. Based on auditions, high school students have been selected as actors, singers, dancers, musicians, set crew, light technicians, backstage crew, costume and make-up artists, choreographers, and public relation personnel. We began with only students from St. Tammany, and have expanded to include a five parish area. We provide students the opportunity to learn from professional artists with formal education and professional experience ranging from the stage to film and grand opera to television. In addition we provide career opportunities for both college bound and non-college-bound students. Your continued support is needed for the success of the CLAPS program.
CLAPS is funded solely on ticket sales, and they need to fill the house this year! So, I highly recommend that all of you Mamas take your kids to at least one of these productions this summer! The cost is far outweighed by the quality! These teens are truly talented and these shows are top notch! Not kidding.
As I said, the final shows of the 2018 season are HONK! and Mary Poppins! I can’t wait to see them! Hopefully we can fill the house like we did for Lion King 2 weeks ago!
