Hey, I have been looking for something for my 60 yo mother for Christmas. Was leaning on a class or a membership to something on the crafty side (stained glass, quilting, painting…) I am new to the area anything you can recommend in the Madisonville, Mandeville, Covington area?

Josh, I have also been recently looking into possible activities for my senior citizen mother. We’re closer to Picayune than Mandeville or Covington, but I do traverse the Northshore frequently. (Lived there for over 9 years.) If you haven’t already located a class, try your local craft supply stores, such as Michael’s or Joann’s for craft classes. They frequently offer them on the premises. Art leagues often offer painting classes. If there is a Senior Center nearby, they usually host quite a few classes and activities as well. Our local Senior Center of South Pearl River County (in Picayune) posts a calendar full of classes M-F during the day…everything from hula dancing to Spanish to woodcarving. I’d bet the ones closer to you do as well. A fabric store or 4-H group may be able to point you to a quilting circle. The St. Tammany Parish libraries also host a variety of activities from reading circles to crochet classes and lectures. Check for a schedule at the library. Hope this helps a bit.

Have you found a public location for classes? I am interested in doing a class not sure I will have enough people to do my own I just moved to the Northshore.

    Hi Kari,
I had to recently quit my full time job due to pregnancy issues. I’m going to be a new mom and need to learn how to coupon, due to being on one income now. I have a cousin who has tried to explain the whole coupon thing but just didn’t get it. I am very interested in taking a class very soon, will you be in the Slidell area or Covington soon?

    Thanks, Christine

    • Kari says:

I mostly teach in your home to you and your friends. But, I am trying to get a public class together in the next few weeks. Just stay tuned and I will announce it when it is all set.
