Our 2nd Northshore Mamas’ Night at Painting with a Twist was a HUGE success! #pwatmandeville #sponsored

Last Thursday night was the anxiously awaited 2nd Mamas’ Night at our local Painting with a Twist in Mandeville. After our first event in May was such a success, we decided to go ahead and book the next one for just before the beginning of the new school year. The tickets went live a little prematurely and the entire event, both rooms, to the tune of 60 seats….SOLD OUT in just 17 minutes!

Then came the gathering of the awesome sponsors for door prizes, refreshments and swag! We had some really great door prizes that were donated this time. Taking an idea from a guest at the first event, we decided to raise money instead of bringing donation items for this one.  After seeing the plays that the CLAPS organization put on this summer, and working with them on some advertising, I chose them as the beneficiary for the event.

So, everyone in attendance would receive a single ticket and then, they could buy more if they wanted a better shot at a door prize. At just 50 cents per extra ticket, we raised a total of $206 for the CLAPS program! I was so happy to present that money to the director today!

We had a full house again this time, but not as many cancellations as I expected with such an early sell out. See, there are ALWAYS a few who can’t make it at the last minute. But, we only had about 4 seats that were released and they were snatched up instantly!

Now, I would like to take one more opportunity to THANK all the sponsors who helped make this event so great!

First and foremost – Our host sponsor – Painting with a Twist!  I am so happy that so many new people have discovered this place and love it as much as I do!

Our food sponsor was Nonna Randazzo’s! Such a beautiful salad, yummy sandwiches and fabulous sweets! I think it was the perfect menu!

McAlister’s of Covington donated GALLONS of tea to wash down all the Nonna’s goodness!

Our Door Prizes were donated by the following:  Victoria Ikeda (Pampered Chef), Laurie Herrmann (Thirty-One), Katherine Gristina (Sasafrass Pediatric Therapy), Mugshots of Covington, The Good Stuff Candles, Mary Cecelia’s Jamberry, Denise Hopkins (our instructor at both events) Fine Art., 9Round of Covington.

Here is Denise with her donation AND the winner, who drove in from Baton Rouge to paint with her daughter for the first time!

Our Swag Sponsors – Cosmos Creations, Swamp Seeds, Hanley’s Foods, Kiddo’s Closet Consignment, Bot & Nola’s SnoBalls, Mary Cecelia’s Jamberry, Naturally Well with Samantha, Victoria Ikeda – Thymeless Oils.

I think that everyone had a blast, had some great food and went home with several awesome treats! I am thinking that our next event will be sometime in the fall. So, stay tuned because I’m sure it will be another lightning sell out!

If you are looking for a unique party favor, decoration, snack, etc……check out today’s Mom On The Side, Angela Morant-Roques.  Angela says:

My name is Angela Morant-Roques and I am the founder of Queen of Pops. I am a Northshore Mom of two handsome boys, Christian is two and half years old and Austin is 3 months old. Like most of you, I contemplated between being a stay-at-home mom or a working mom. I stayed home Christian’s first year, and realized our family needed a second income.

When I was planning Christian’s first birthday party, I decided to make Elmo cake pops as the party favor. They came out perfectly and looked so cute on the table as a decoration. When I passed them out to children, their faces lit up! The parents liked them so much, they asked me where I got them. When I told them I had made them, they could not stop complimenting me. That is when I realized I could have everything I wanted, to say home with my kids and have a second income. That day is when I started Queen of Pops. If you are unfamiliar with cake pops, they are bite-sized cake balls, coated in chocolate and placed on lollipop sticks. I also offer cake truffles by the dozen which are served in a candy cup instead of on a stick. The cake flavors and decorations are endless.

Shortly after Christian’s birthday, the orders for other birthday parties started pouring in. Although I began with kids character pops, I now offer a wide variety of cake pops. I have done pops for events such as baby showers, bridal showers, weddings, graduations, holidays, etc. Consultations are free, so please think of Queen of Pops for your next event. We can be found on facebook at Queen of Pops or reached by phone at 504-858-8742 or email me at Queenofpops@yahoo.com.

Here are some pics of Angela’s Pops! AWESOME! Be sure to stop by her page and tell her you saw it on NSM!

Moms On the Side: Joanna Vicknair ~ Flutist

This is another new category for the On the Side feature. Meet Joanna Vicknair, flutist…..

Joanna says:

I am currently a stay at home mom with my 15 month old twins and upcoming
homeschooling of my 10 year old. I am a nurse also but am enjoying this time
with my kids. Money is definitely tight on just my husband’s income, and it was
his idea actually to advertise on facebook that I am a flutist as well. I
created a facebook page, Saving Grace Music……with all the info necessary if
someone is to inquire about me. I have enjoyed playing my flute over the years for various occasions and especially in my church parish. Picking up my flute to play for anything is and will always be my saving grace!

Live music makes an excellent addition to any wedding, party or other special occasion. With over 15 years experience as a flutist, I have performed for weddings, wedding vow renewals, church services and college level performances.

You can reach Joanna via her Facebook page or email her at  jro910@yahoo.com.

Kelly Cannon – “Say Cheesecake!”

This post may contain sponsored or affiliate links.

Many of you may remember that I did a large class in Lee Road last week. A couple of nights before that class, I asked my Facebook readers this question: What are you famous for? What is the dish that everyone demands that you bring to a holiday, potluck, etc.

Kelly Cannon was one of the first to respond with “White Chocolate and Caramel Cheesecake”. I told her that I hoped she would be bringing that to the class the next week. She did, and Holy Toledo! It was AHHH—MAZING! It was so smooth and creamy and just the right texture. The toppings were divine! The cake was gone in a very short while, but I managed to snag a piece. All I can say is W-O-W!

So, I invited Kelly to send me her info to be a Moms On The Side feature and below is what she sent:

My name is Kelly Arseneaux Cannon. I have been married for almost 20 years and I am the mother of two teenage boys. I spent many years as the Room Mother that everybody loved because I was always sending yummy treats for the class. Since my cheesecakes seemed to be the favorite, I decided to build on the traditional cheesecake and see what I could come up with… and maybe I could make some extra income while I was at it. My cheesecakes have been used as birthday cakes, groom‘s cakes and even wedding cakes. “Say Cheesecake!” was born and now I’m affectionately known as the “Cheesecake Lady”! My cheesecakes are all homemade and baked in a high/low temp process that takes approximately 4 hours in the oven with a 12 hour chill time which is why advance ordering is required. This is not your ordinary cheesecake! They are approx. 10 inches by 3 inches. I also make other items such as Oreo Truffles, Peanut Butter Cups, Cheesecake Shooters and a Mile High Apple Pie that is double crusted and spiced to perfection. Many of my creations are customer suggested and I welcome a chance to talk with you about an idea you may have for a flavor or topping.”
